چکیده

The effect of cadmium chloride on green gram (Vigna radiata Linn.) was studied using the parameters like carbohydrates, protein, chlorophyll and oxidative enzymes like superoxide dismutase, catalase and peroxidase of leaves inorder to know the possible involvement of cadmium metal in the generation of oxidative stress. Results obtained in this work showed that the application of cadmium decreased the growth of the plant interms of shoot and root growth. It also suggests that the growth of green gram with cadmium chloride can induce a concentration-dependent oxidative stress situation, characterized by the inhibition of the antioxidant systems, in leaves.

Effects of Cadmium Stress on Antioxidant Enzymes in Vigna Radiata Roots

A brief study to analyze oxidative stress and antioxidant response of cadmium stress was carried out. The plant chosen Vigna radiata (var. SML-668) was hydroponically grown in 0, 50μM, 100μM and 150μM, cadmium chloride. The roots were taken from hydroponic culture at 6 days of growth for various enzymatic and metabolic estimations. Among the antioxidant enzymes, root catalase and ascorbate pero...

Induction of Oxidative Stress and Osmolyte Accumulation In Response to Sodium Arsenate Toxicity in Mungbean Seedlings and Its Amelioration

Effect of sodium arsenate (Na2HAsO4.7H2O) on the growth and activity of few oxidizing enzymes of mungbean seedlings was investigated and it was found to have drastic effects on the growth and biochemical metabolism of germinating mungbean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek cv. B-105) seedlings. With the increase in concentration of sodium arsenate (5μM, 10μM and 20μM) significant decrease in seedling ...

Arsenic-induced oxidative stress and its reversal by thiourea in mung bean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek.) genotype

A pot culture experiment was conducted in mung bean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek.) genotype PUSA Baisakhi to test the effect of sodium arsenate and thiourea (TU). Arsenic at 25 μM caused significant inhibition of growth as indicated by reduced shoot and root dry weight and reduction in photosynthetic capacity. Significant decline in ascorbate peroxidase, dehydroascorbate reductase and glutathion...

Managing the pools of cellular redox buffers and the control of oxidative stress during the ontogeny of drought-exposed mungbean (Vigna radiata L.)—role of sulfur nutrition

*Correspondence: Muhammad Iqbal, Department of Botany, Faculty of Science, Hamdard University, New Delhi, 110062, India e-mail: [email protected] Impacts of increasing environmental stresses (such as drought) on crop productivity can be sustainably minimized by using plant-beneficial mineral nutrients (such as sulfur, S). This study, based on a pot-culture experiment conducted in greenhouse c...

Polyamines Confer Salt Tolerance in Mung Bean (Vigna radiata L.) by Reducing Sodium Uptake, Improving Nutrient Homeostasis, Antioxidant Defense, and Methylglyoxal Detoxification Systems

The physiological roles of PAs (putrescine, spermidine, and spermine) were investigated for their ability to confer salt tolerance (200 mM NaCl, 48 h) in mung bean seedlings (Vigna radiata L. cv. BARI Mung-2). Salt stress resulted in Na toxicity, decreased K, Ca, Mg, and Zn contents in roots and shoots, and disrupted antioxidant defense system which caused oxidative damage as indicated by incre...
